Some people say you should delete the word “impossible” from your vocabulary. I disagree….as long as you believe the letters “IM” stand for “I Make!”

A golfer reaches excellence when his focus is only on the ball he is about to hit.  Forget the last shot.  This is the only way to predict the future…by creating it.

Extra Credit is NOT an Option!

Posted on February 20th, 2010 by by Michael Cammack

The other night, my oldest daughter handed me her homework to look over.  What caught my attention first was that her work was incomplete.  I handed it back to her asking that she look it over again carefully and hinted that she had missed something.  She then told me that the last problem was left blank because it was “Extra Credit” and the teacher said that part was optional.

I’m sure my family gets tired of hearing Daddy’s philosophies, but this was an opportunity to explain a fundamental element of success, and as a father I was not going to let that opportunity escape.

I then began to explain why Optional Extra Credit was NOT an option in our family!  Simply answering that one single home work question…even if the answer were wrong, would separate her from 90% of the lazy and unmotivated people who inspire to be no greater than average.  Answering that one home work question would be the beginning of forming a good habit of discipline…another rare characteristic in people today.

If exercising and working out were easy, everyone would be doing it.  Instead, we are outnumbered by obesity and laziness.  Look around at what makes other people comfortable and then do the opposite.

This is all about going that “One Extra Degree!”  Going that one more step puts you into a rare and elite group of people with a mindset for success.  Do the little things even when nobody else is watching.  Extra Credit is NEVER an Option!

What is your sign?

Can you believe someone in the service industry actually has this sign hanging at their desk?!  There is nothing in the world wrong with having a sense of humor, but did this person think for one moment the impression this sign may be making to customers?  Out of the endless motivational and inspirational quotes out there, this person chose to hang a sign of negativity that plainly tells the customer “You won’t get good service from me.  Not today and not tomorrow.”  This sign plainly tells the customer they barely have the capability to please one customer per day.  If the choice were up to you on choosing a representative who proudly hung this sign above, or a representative who hung a sign indicative of their dedication to customer service…who would you choose?

My question to you is this…. “What is YOUR sign?”  If you had one quote hanging in your office, what would it say?  What would that sign say to your customers?  Would your sign advance your sales or hold you back?  Your thoughts become words and your words become actions.  Choose your sign wisely!

SELF-PITY IS AN OPIATE

Posted on February 5th, 2010 by by Michael Cammack

SELF-PITY IS AN OPIATE

The most insidious problem with drugs is that the human body develops a tolerance for them and requires larger and larger doses to achieve the same effect. The same is true with self-pity. The more you allow yourself to indulge in it, the more you will require.Soon, self-pity will become a habit, one so debilitating that you will rob yourself of all the potential you possess. Happily, there is a cure. If you truly analyze the situation, most often you will find that the problems that have driven you to pity yourself are mostly of your own creation. It follows, then, that the best person to remedy the problem is the person who created it: you yourself.

The Last Trampoline Jump

Posted on January 27th, 2010 by by Michael Cammack

As I write this blog, I am enjoying listening to the voices and laughter of my children playing outside on their trampoline.  It is bringing back some great memories of my childhood past times as I would spend countless hours jumping on my trampoline with my neighbor Stormin’ Norman.

My kids play lots of the same trampoline games we used to play with the exception for my favorite game, “Shoe Bounce.”  This is a game where all the kids would place their shoes in a pile in the center of the trampoline and everybody would jump attempting to bounce off the other kids’ shoes.  Whoever owned the one shoe that remained was the winner.  The only reason they can’t play Shoe Bouncetoday is because today’s trampolines are made for sissies with all the surrounding nets.  Back in my day, we simply fractured bones by falling off and withstood agonizing pain from falling through the springs saddling the bars between our legs.  Let me get back on track with the Shoe Bounce story…

I was thinking of all the memories created by jumping on our trampoline…memories that will last a lifetime.  However, one thing I cannot recall is the very last time we played Shoe Bounce.  We were not aware of the day that would be the last time we ever played any of these games.  Just all of a sudden, it is nearly twenty years later and I realize that I have no recollection of that last jump.

Had Stormin’ Norman and myself known when that last day would have been, I am certain we would have jumped our hardest, we would have started jumping hours earlier that day and we would have stayed out jumping way past sunset.  We would have made it an unforgettable trampoline jumping extravaganza!

How true is this in our everyday lives?  We look back and realize something is now in the past and had we known it would have been the last time we would have made it count.  Use this mindset to your advantage.  I will propose a realistic challenge to you that will have immediate impact on your personal and professional development.

I will not use the cliche’ of “treat everyday like your last,” because people do not seem to be able to grasp such a large concept.  Instead, I will ask you to simply choose one event a day to approach as though it will be the last.  Try doing this at work on your sales calls and try doing this at home.  Keep it simple to one event everyday and throw all your heart and soul into making the event a memory to last a lifetime.

I would love to hear of the positive impact you have on everyone around you during this challenge.  Please share with me your successes.
